Hi Mike,
It was great to meet you as well ! thanks again for your help and advice...
how did your races go yesterday ?
I did get out on Sunday morning....challenging conditions with strong gusty wind and rolling waves...
the V8 was awesome ! very stable and loads of fun....I felt strong and safe and fast almost immediately...I can tell its going to be perfect for my paddling goals ! the wing paddle was awesome too, wow does it feel stable....I'm heading out again tonight as soon as I can get out of work....likely I'll try to see if I can climb back in from deep water - then I'll really feel safe venturing out on the open water
I'll try to watch the paddling video this week or next, and get it in the mail back to you once I've checked it out....
bye for now Mike,
Murray

Subject: RE: V8
I just purchased one from Mike after taking it for a few days on lake Huron for a trial. It is VERY good on lake waves and lots of fun! It is much more stable than any flatwater kayak and no risk of filling up with water. We had some non-paddler friends take it for a whirl and, although a little intimidated at first by the look of it, they were able to paddle around with no problems, even on windy days this past weekend. I had lots of fun on it as did my wife and daughters, it is easy to get a good workout in no matter what the water/wind conditions. Actually, the more wind/wave the better on the V8. I highly recommend it.

there 2 x key issues that I look for when buying a high end kayak is good service and knowledge of the product. Mike is the best I have worked with.
Now the V8 – this is a brilliant change to a traditional cockpit kayaking. Stable and fast and fun – that is how I would classify the V8.

We recently purchased an Epic V12 form Kayak Sport Canada and we were thoroughly impressed with the experience. Michael took us through all of our options and helped us to find the right boat. He went the extra mile to ensure a smooth process for us, even lending us a roof rack for the boat until we could have one custom made. Their reputation, expertise, and desire to see the best for their customers, has made Kayak Sport Canada the only place that we'll go for our water sport equipment."

Hello again Mike,
Here is my review for the V8 and Kayak Sport Canada...
it really has been a delight in every way to have met you...I really appreciate your advice and willingness to help...plus your trust...it means a lot - well done my friend !
Epic V8.....Wheeee, what a boat ! I bought the V8 to race multisport events on relatively flat water. As a rookie in race kayaks I immediately found the boat a joy to paddle - fast and very stable. As a bonus, I live in Kingston on Lake Ontario and I've found the boat even more fun to venture out in the waves...the bigger the better ! I feel totally safe on the open water which adds an element to the boat that I could not have with a pure racing kayak....if you do happen to dump it, even in deep water...its a snap to climb back on and away you go!
As for the service from Mike at Kayak Sport Canada, its simply not possible to overstate how helpful and considerate he has been. Its not every day you start by looking to buy something, and end up with exactly what you need plus a new friend !

As a marathon canoeist I'm always looking for that extra edge. Winning is important and having the right equipment is essential to compete. After winning the 1,100 kms Sask.Canoe Quest and the 740 kms long distance Yukon River Quest with my team in 2008 by setting a new course record of 39 hrs and 32 mins, I wanted to go solo in a kayak. I had used different kayaks over the years, such as necky and current designs but I was looking for something with a sleeker design that was lighter, faster, and had excellent tracking ability. When I learned about the Epic 18X's resume of winning races and that it had more wins in the Yukon River Quest race solo class than any other kayak, I knew it would be my choice. The fact that I would have the ability to accelerate, and paddle faster than I ever have before for longer time periods made the choice to purchase an Epic 18X even easier. I received excellent customer service with tips from Mike Fekete on training programs and product support. All of my water sport equipment needs were readily available at Kayak Sport Canada. The service I received was superior and I recommend anyone to shop there first before going to any other sports shop.

Dominator |
Dear Mike,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and KayakSport for your great advice, direction and supply of our most recent boat purchase of a K1 Dominator. The K1 Dominator was an addition to the Trillium grant order that I had purchased for my daughter Robyn. She is a Midget level paddler with our club.
Since taking possession of the Dominator, Robyn has improved her times and finds the boat comfortable to paddle and steer. I find the construction of the boat to be very good and the weight easy for her to handle or “shoulder” the boat to and from the water.
Ultralight Composites along with you and KayakSport Canada are offering a truly world-class product with this Dominator model. If finances and granting opportunities permit, I can foresee the possibility of future purchases of this boat from the Sydenham Lake Canoe Club.
It has been a pleasure dealing with you and hope to do more in the future.
Sincerely,
Erik Miazga

Hello Mike.
I’m writing this to thank you once again. The boat is great. I absolutely love the paddle (Kajner 4M). I’ve now been paddling it for about a month and am very pleased with it. A few positive aspects… It is quite light. It is very fast. Finally, I’m really pleased with the steering.
In terms of the paddles you gave me… The one with the mahogany shine-in the silvery cover-didn’t quite work for me, for whatever reason. I love the other one though, the ‘Kajner 4M’. I enjoy paddling with it mainly because of its lightness and its shape.
There are a couple of paddlers at my club thinking about buying a boat. I will direct them to you and Kayaksport.
Thank you so much,
Victor Turcanu
P.S.: Thanks a lot for all the extra stuff.

Shark/Dolphin |
Hi Mike,
Emmie and I are very happy with our Dolphin and Shark, respectively. I trained and raced a SRS Barracuda and Nelo Scorpion for about 6 years, mainly because there wasn’t a boat that could serve as the next step up from the older Csepel-style boats without getting into the elite level boats. I always hoped for a boat that would give me a little more stability so that I could paddle it with more confidence, which is exactly what the Dolphin/Shark is. The difference in speed is negligible, since I am able to paddle stronger and with better technique than I could previously, which more than makes up for the differences in hydrodynamics. For a busy Masters paddle with limited time to train and wanting a quality paddle every time out, these are the perfect boats. I am 5’10”, 180 lbs, and the Dolphin is a little snug for me in the hips. The Shark fits perfectly, it gives me a little more room without becoming too roomy or feeling bulky. Also, having purchased new boats from 3 different distributors now, I can say that your customer service and on-going support is head-and-shoulders above the others.

Shark |
Mike, I wanted to share my appreciation for the Shark kayak. It is the most comfortable racing kayak I've ever paddled! The best feature is the larger cockpit, which allows for unrestricted hip and leg movement. There's enough room in the cockpit for full and effective rotation.
In addition, its footboard and foot brace system facilitate a solid connection to the boat, to give you the stability to really drive forward. The back on the seat provides extra support to effectively transfer the power from your legs to the boat.
And, of course, the Shark looks great with its sleek lines and cut out deck, which also helps with a more vertical catch. You were very helpful when I was looking for the boat. You provided me with a Shark to try for multiple paddles, gave me advice on how to get used to the boat and get comfortable paddling in both a low seat and a high seat. Then, when my boat arrived, you set it up so that it fit me just right.
The Shark is the perfect sprint boat - it is comfortable, fast, and with enough stability so that you can really apply the power. Thank you for the terrific design and boat buying experience!

Dolphin |
Hi Mike:
I love the Dolphin, unfortunately didn't paddled enough in it last year to feel totally confortable but that was mostly lack of time to practice. I have asked Laura to send me her comments about the Dolphin. She did really well in it and was very stable. She has smaller in the hips than me. I found that my hips rubbed a bit on the sides which affected my confidence and perhaps the balance a bit. As far as the construction, it is excellent. I would definitely recommend the boat. It is easy to balance, well constructed, and fast. Fast enough for me. I certainly found it faster yet more balanced than a ranger clone that I have used before. Only thing it needs is a hook to place to paddle on when you fall out.
Regards,
Marlene

Hi Mike,
thanks for the mail.
In regards to the Dolphin K-1, it is the best boat I had and I'm happy with:
1) the stability,
2) the speed,
3) it's light and fast boat and the composition of the materials, workmanship is very good to make the boat sturdy enough for small, light people. And in my view it is excellent K-1 for the money.
My K2 partner Bob and I are both happy and will keep the boats for long time.
Your friend
Nick

Viper |
I am thrilled with my purchase of the Cobra Viper kayak. I was looking for the fastest, plastic sit-in kayak on the market and I think I found it in the Viper!
To put things in perspective, I am able to maintain the Viper at an average speed of 5.7 mph over a 5 mile flat water course and that is more than a full mile per hour faster than I was able to achieve in my previous 17'ocean kayak. The Viper is the perfect step between a fast ocean kayak and a composite racing kayak or ski because it is affordable and virtually indestructible while requiring the paddler to learn the essential balance skills needed for the skinnier boats and skis. The lack of initial stability forced me to learn proper technique yet the secondary stability was actually quite forgiving as I climbed the learning curve. Now I find it nearly impossible to go slow in the boat!
The Viper is an absolutely wonderful boat for an experienced kayaker who has a 'need for speed' and is ready to take it to the next level without risking a ton of money for a true Olympic K1 or composite race kayak before they know if they’re going to stick with it and master the long, skinny boats.
I love my Cobra Viper!
Best regards,
Dave D.

| Qanik - Kayak |
Hi Mike,
Just thought I'd let you know my thoughts on the Qanik.
I have taken it out on a few paddles and been out rolling with it a number of times and so far I'm very impressed !
The boat handles very well. For a boat that is 17' 10" I'm amazed at how responsive it is. I find it is easier to turn than other kayaks I own which are a few inches shorter.
The hard chines make it very easy to put on edge with good stability. It also makes for a lot of fun! The initial stability is also very good.
The Qanik has good speed and accelerates very well. I have not paddled it in really windy condition yet but so far I find that it tracks well.
For rolling this boat is a dream ! It rolls up with very little effort at all.I 'm convinced I will get my handroll this winter. I think this would be a good boat for someone learning to roll.
The layup is very solid and the finish is nice. I also like the white deck with the black hull. The adjustable thigh braces on the cockpit are also a nice touch. I even like the padded seat. I didn't think I would but I find it comfortable. We were out for a few hours the other day and it was 4 degrees and I found it made quite a difference in warmth.
I seem to sit on the backrest when I get in but that can easily be modified.
The hatches are a bit smaller due to the lower profile but the front hatch opening is large which will make it easier to pack. I'm sure l will have no problem packing for a weeklong trip.
I think this boat is the best of both worlds .It has all the characteristics of a greenland kayak but can be also used for touring as long as you don't over pack.
Thanks Mike ! It was a pleasure to deal with you.
