Legacy K1 Olympic Sprint Kayak

The Legacy K1 is a final evolution of the legendary VanDusen line of kayaks. we had the pleasure to test it in Seattle Green Lake. Here are a few bits about it ...

Stern section. Note the rudder position: the most notably visible difference the design of the hull is the rudder location where the trailing edge of the rudder is even the stern. This rudder is a single blade design and it does not continue pass the stern line. >>

This is what will make a difference ... I haven't seen something this elegant since the first Eagle. For a good 12 inches of the hull, the lines of the stern section are noticeably plumb. There is no doubt in my mind that Greg and Ted look at the stern/rudder as an integrated system. >>

The footbrace/ rudder system is designed to be easily adjusted. Velcro straps and movable system are designed to fit different body types.
The footrest adjustment: is a typical horizontal holding pegs that seat/hook onto side perforated "c" shaped channels. The pegs are operate by squeezing a single line; the line pulls both pegs effortlessly.

The Legacy seat set-up deviates from the typical flat board set-up and relies on a "Y" shaped three point connection. Flat board set-ups have a two point connection where the weight of the paddler ends up "pushing" the hull out and in deforming the hull lines.
The Legacy three point connection distributes the weight of the paddler in a more uniform way. This eliminates hull deformation.
Note the rudder lines micro-adjustement system.
